Dreamweaver extensions

Welcome to this section of the MIcrobion site. Dreamweaver is probably the best web design software available. It's made even better by the extensions which add functionality to the program and which are available (often for free) from the Dreamweaver Exchange site.

On this page are some extensions of my own which I hope you find useful. Please feel free to download and try them out. Installation instructions are contained in each archive.

Extension #1: Lorem Ipsum

Most people will have seen the pseudo-Latin piece of text often supplied with desktop publishing and text markup software. It is a useful piece which fills white space and lets you see how the layout works without distracting the reader by its content! This extension simply inserts the text as a new paragraph into a Dreamweaver document.

To install this extension:

copy the file 'LoremIpsum.mxp' into your 'Downloaded extensions' folder (or wherever you keep your extensions)
run the Macromedia Extension Manager (installed with Dreamweaver 4, or downloadable from Macromedia)
select the LoremIpsum extension and install it

Extension #2: Insert Row Below

Dreamweaver's command to insert a row into a table (Modify->Table->Insert row) adds a new row to a table above the row in which the cursor resides. You can insert a row below the row with the cursor by using the Modify->Table->Insert rows or columns... command and clicking OK in the dialog box. This is inconvenient, to say the least. This extension provides a shortcut which simply inserts a row below the cursor.

To install this extension:

unzip the archive and copy the file 'Insert row below.htm' into the folder \Dreamweaver 4\Configuration\Commands (this is the directory tree in a default installation of Dreamweaver - it may vary on your machine)
the extension will be available from the Commands menu

Note that this is a simple recorded command in Dreamweaver and so does not need to be installed in the same way as a regular extension.
